My Experience With Coconut Oil

You hear it everywhere - coconut oil is everything.  I was never really on board with this coconut oil craze.  In fact, I was highly skeptical.  I had a hard time believing that coconut oil was a great styling product or a great item to put on your skin.  Wouldn't that just make you really oily?  I passed on the whole experience.

That was until I was offered a box of complimentary coconut oil products from Shea Moisture through Influenster.  I figured this was free and this was a company that has built their success on skin and hair products (among other products).  Why not?  I accepted the box and patiently waited.

I was actually really excited when I received it.  I thought I was finally going to debunk this coconut oil trend - once and for all!  Well, the tables have turned.  The items that I received were a leave in conditioner, a finishing oil, an overnight face oil, and a head to toe hydration.  I used it all consistently for a over a week now, and I'm ready to give my opinion on this.

Let's start at the top.  I received two products that were geared specifically towards hair: the leave in conditioner and the finishing spray.  My first reaction to these products is that my hair feels soft and smells phenomenal.  The leave in conditioner sprays directly on the hair.  You simply focus it on mid to ends of your hair.  I don't have words to describe what it smells like, but trust me when I say it's great.  My husband is even obsessed with the smell.  The finishing oil has the same scent as the leave in conditioner.  This one is definitely more oily than the other products, and I have to wash my hand FOR SURE after using.  DO NOT SPRAY THIS DIRECTLY ON YOUR HAIR.  You will have a huge oily spot.  I spray it once into my hands (since my hair is short) and rub them together.  Then I apply through the mid to ends of my hair.  You don't want this on the roots - otherwise you will have super greasy hair.   I usually apply this after curling or blow drying my hair.  It adds a shine that is similar to Jon Snow's hair.

My face (which is not dry or oily - it's just normal) felt more hydrated and softer than usual.  This was surprising to me since I immediately thought that the oil would make my face oily.  I was also concerned that it would clog my pores and I would break out.  Since using this, I have yet to wake up with a pizza face.  The most dry parts of my face are by my hair line, and I will focus a drop or two around there.  So far, so good.
The last one I want to talk about is this Head to Toe Hydration.  When they say coconut oil does everything, it does everything.  This is great on hair - just like the first two products I talked about.  It's so gentle too.  There's not so much a scent on this one, which is fine by me.  This is also great on any rough patches that you might have.  I, for one, have really rough elbows.  It's been an issue I have had since I was a kid, and I am always using extra lotion for my elbows.  This is a great lotion alternative for those issues.  It's also great for helping to remove make up.  That's right, folks. Coconut oil really does do everything.

I think it's safe to say that these products have found their way into my daily routine.
